Latest RAD Soldiers iOS Update Adds Loot Crates, Missions

We've just released a new update for the iOS version of RAD Soldiers. The two biggest additions in this update are the Loot Crates from the Chrome Web Store version, along with a new, free Challenge Pack creatively titled 'Party Hardest'.

Loot Crates will spawn randomly during single player missions. If you manage to pick one up and win the mission, you'll get to open the Crate. Each crate contains a random reward, which can be anything from a weapon or an outfit all the to a full-blown Soldier.

Here's the full changelog for this update:

  • Introducing loot crates: Collect special loot crates for random rewards including weapons, skins, and Soldiers! LIMITED TIME ONLY.
  • More single player missions: Tackle a whole new set of challenges in the free ‘Party Hardest’ pack
  • Fixed AI attacking non-stunnable enemies with EMP grenade
  • Check the list of reachable tiles for enemy units when determining whether an AOE can hit them or not instead of doing a straight tile distance ignoring obstacles.

How about some new soldiers? A new soldier every 2 weeks or a month? Lets spice this stale meta up and I don't mean that by adding more Electra Fryer OP weapons. Nerf Dave's Nade (either cost, damage, radius, movement range, or range in general but NOT all of them.) Buff soldiers passive ability, it's near useless. Make Electra Fryer cost 6 to equip vs 5. Slap the RAD Soldiers team around Badman!

we have 17 soldiers already. there are so many variations for each of the 3 game mods. 12 new soldiers in a year... for sure. the limit should be 5 a year. that's a lot already. Dave's grenade is powerful, but the soldier itself is one of the weakest units in the game. once the grenade is out, you can do nearly nothing with him. good luck finding a good place for a 200hp soldier to make good use of support fire. as explained before. it's nearly impossible to kill any full-hp soldier with him SOLO in ONE turn. you will always need a second damage-source electri-fryer is powerful but useless in close range. otto-semi does the same damage on close range and needs 1 energy less. the other 2 snipers although they need more squad-points have a way better damage. people say it's hard to remember every soldiers ability. now, when they have trouble with 17 soldiers, how to remember 29 soldiers? or even more... the crates are awesome.

Yes, there are many variations. Too bad only 2-3 are viable and of those they all have Dave, 1 of them runs 2 Daves, and they all run 2 electro fryers. To say they aren't OP is being blind. Some slight balancing needs to happen.

It isn't it's actually very low. Most games with this style of system are released with 25+ playable characters and have additional characters added every 2 weeks to a month.
Dave's grenade is powerful, but the soldier itself is one of the weakest units in the game. once the grenade is out, you can do nearly nothing with him. good luck finding a good place for a 200hp soldier to make good use of support fire.
So you are agreeing with me that his ability is too strong and the soldier passive is too weak. That's exactly what I was saying. Nerf the grenade in either range, how many tiles it pushes, and make the solider passive viable. He may not be a high damage juggernaut like Juan, but he isn't supposed to be. That's why he can move 12 tiles and why he has 200 hp. Dave gets into a location and controls it. He can do that now but he does it too well.

It's rare that you get into close range of a sniper with the electri-fryer. Even if you did, you are probably surrounded by Gus's and an Orbi Commander. Since it's release the only time I have seen a different sniper is because someone is just playing for fun or trying a new build and even then it's uncommon. Every competitive build runs 2 Fryers...for a reason.

I haven't read that. Where are people posting that it is hard to remember 17 soldiers? There are more than 17 fighters in street fighter, tekken, mortal combat etc. People remember. League of Legends and DoTA have over 100 playable characters. People remember. I highly doubt the majority of players can't remember 17 soldiers and I also doubt I'm the only person who would like some more flavor in this game. 1 Rad Soldier a month isn't asking for a lot and people will learn and remember. Your argument is very weak on this topic.

Yes, they are awesome. It's too bad that it's a money dump when they haven't given us a reason to play more. I have everything I need already unlocked. The boxes are useless to me.

w.o.t. tl.dr on 26 pt there are more than 5 different builds for each map // allround setups and per map there are more than 2 more builds that fit to that map // situational setups on 20pt there are more than 10 different builds for each map // allround setups and per map there are more than 3 more builds that fit to that map // situational setups on 14 pt there are more than 15 different builds for each map // allround setups and per map there are more than 3 more builds that fit to that map // situational setups every setup has 2+ counter-setups I played lol, dota. dota2 and hon. even blc and I can tell, it was a pain in the ass coming into one of these games. it took like 2 months of casual gaming to get a little knowledge about all heroes. and i was told that dota and hon are somehow quite the same ... and I already knew the ... like .. gaming. a totally new player is so damn lost there. 2 weeks ago I looked back at HoN. like 10 new heroes, 20 old heroes had major "balancing" changes with somehow new/changed abilities. the main menu looked like the consoles of the death-star ... no clue where to look at and what moved what. the crates are mainly for the new players I have a lot of fun collecting some of them. gives me a good reason to finish all my single-player missions. collecting weapons I was too lazy to buy and/or outfits for my characters is just awesome. I even got another Dave. people play games for fun. there is no real reason to unlock all dota/hon/lol chars. people tend to play ~10 different chars in 95% of the games. rad soldiers is a mindgame. you don't play chess ( coming back to chess) to unlock the bishop ... you play to search, find and use different setups and win with them. in rad soldiers you also got ~1million different ways to do your first turn. 1-5 different/same characters out of 17 with ~ 8 possible weapons for each of them with 6-12 different fields they might stay on at the end of the first turn the reason to play this game is FUN and Mastering your strategy. or are you trying to tell the community that you are the best player in this game and have no further reason to play it ?

Like any game there is a learning curve. The hardest part of a MOBA isn't learning the champions, it's learning how to play the moba. Then when you think you understand, 3 months later you realize you had absolutely no clue how in depth the genre is. I know MOBA's very well, I competed in League and helped find Team LzH. I'm not saying it's easy to pick up but the meta is never stale as it's always changing. Chess for me and I would say most is boring. It's predetermined moves/strategies that you memorize and apply. RAD Soldiers is similar, but not the same, and can be much more.

Yes, they are good for continuous revenue and new players. I like the crates...It feels like you are arguing here just to argue. -_-

What is fun? Define fun for me as a person. You can't because it is subjective. Fun for me is competition. I compete in near every game I play from FPS, to MMOs, MOBA's, and even RAD Soldiers. That's how I have fun. Your variations are terribly off. Since the majority of the vocal players on this forum compete in some fashion, I am basing my arguments on that format. 26p is 6 RAD soldiers over 5. If you run 6 soldiers you are not using any variation other than pistol, knife, 2 SMG, and 2 snipers (if you plan on winning.) A whopping 6 weapons out of over 15 (guessing.) You play Juan, Haq, Kate, Gus, Dave 5/17 soldiers (30%) primarily with the situational, Ivan or Dee. I would add Megean but only 1 crazy guy plays her and she is easily countered. :) Of all those played only 1 is a medium build because Medium builds are UP. There may be 1 million ways to do your first turn but you know very well, you will only use 2-3 preset first turns that lock your opponent out of moving to specific locations that you want control over. I really do not understand why you are throwing petty arguments at me when you know the facts. I am not the best player at this game. I will be the first to tell you that and I don't have a problem telling everyone that. What I am is bored, the meta is stale, and balancing needs to happen so we can actually utilize more soldiers and weapons (more variation.) More soldiers, weapon and ability balancing, and some more balanced maps will make this game more fun for me and for others like me. It should also be appealing to players like you because the search for the best strategy never ends.

I don't have the prerequisite knowledge or experience to really chime in much here, but as a newer player, I don't think the number of soldiers is much of an issue with picking up the game. One unit a month is probably a little unrealistic. It might be difficult to keep things balanced. One or two every three months sounds more doable to me, but of course, it depends. I can see weapons being more easily affixed to a monthly schedule or so. : x

I must be an acception I refuse to use or buy a electric fryer till it sorted on a few ideas made on forum beside I find it a challenge not to use it, though seeing more than one I feel it really dominates combat.. With loot crates those that have chrome, do you also get iOS as well? with all thrown abilities you start to think wow they threw further than hooh hah- probable because of the splash damage would hit them if lower. Raise the energy up to 4 like kate?

kinda agree on this, especially use of mediums. Engineers like timmy are dinosaurs. Heavy and lights are more popular and when you look at 17 odd toons and realise how many players keep sticking to the same ones you ask why repeat same energy and health? why not start to have say eg a light that has health 220 and energy 11? why do all lights have to be the same in stats, I like to see a little difference with the categories (med/engineers/snipe) in stats, for players are treating them like commandoes (the regular ) to gain more of their abilities or access to weapons like fryer or heal or move with squirter (this is horsey/knight type mover and gain advantage on heavies). Take ivan and Juan. Ivan is a commando one who gets into fights, while juan is meant to be a sneaky snipe. But both have have same stats and both have ranged throwing weapons. I see Juan a close in specialist (he even comes with a melee weap) but majority use him as a long range specialist that makes him sit and use full potential of weapon and able to withstand punishment longer. Weapons like the LMG works better on ivan than spud, same with fryer on Mad/juan and maybe pete with headshot. Map wise it is hard to balance, unless we get rid of mirroring and so player 2 will not be disadvantaged. It will also spice up thinking for you will have a unique perspective that that going first. We have 17 toons, and if there going to be more will it stop cloning? I dont think it will unless dev stop it. it is only then you will see variety of toons (and different stats) What I see RAD with chess, but medium is the average, light and heavies of each category give it more functions to taylor to style of play. rocket area=King Captain=Queen (a bigger range of weapons upto a hoohah really be nice to see smg also-no heavy melee or ranged.) Commandoes=Pawns (all melee type and all light, med to heavy guns-no long range) Snipes=Bishops (no light hand guns, all melee, medium to long range guns) Meds=Knights (all melee weapons, light hand guns up to smg.) Engineers=Rooks (all melee weaps, shotguns [variety of types] or any close in gun or support) Mediums should be the norm (so more choices for medium toons)and light and heavies one squad point higher so to balance out too many of each type I given a few brainstorm ideas in another topic about suggestions, in the end it is up to Dev...an boy I feel for them, we are all such picky bastards, and it is hard to please everyone, so it all about compromise :)
