New RAD Soldiers Update adds Performance Optimisations for Challenges and iPod touch

Listen up, Commanders! A new update for RAD Soldiers is now available via the App Store, and it contains a bunch of performance related tweaks and fixes.

Chiefly, this update addresses the periodic slowdowns in a few of the single player challenges, which were reported by some of you. We've also got a small bundle of performance tweaks for those of you playing RAD Soldiers on the iPod touch, so you should now have a much better experience. And last, but certainly not least, starting with this update, all of RAD Soldiers is now hosted in the App Store, so you'll be able to play all of the maps right after your download finishes, without having to wait for the content delivery network to serve you the rest.

For reference and those who like bulleted lists, here's the full changelog:

  • Resolved performance issues occurring in some single player challenges
  • Added performance optimisations for iPod touch
  • Tweaked ‘Operation Piece of Cake’ challenge
  • All of RAD Soldiers is now included in the initial App Store download – no more having to wait on additional maps to be downloaded! Because of this, a WiFi connection is required to install the update

Let us know in the comments how the performance optimisations in this update are working for you!

Fooled around with it a little after having only moderate troubles with slowdown and the like and it's very responsive. Great work! ...though in the same breath, I will ask if the changes to soldier voices were planned? Both genders of soldier now seem to have a generic set of poke and movement responses rather than their usual ones. And absolutely no Captain ability barks yeah I'm guessing this was unintended

Catnadain, the voice pack changes are part of the performance optimisations for lower spec devices. The game was running into memory issues before, which could result in crashes or slowdowns. Higher spec devices will work as before in the audio department. Do let us know you fare performance-wise. :)

Ah, noted. I'll take it for a spin, see if I can make it crash now. EDIT: Well where before the game would have hung for a minute and then crash (letting the game idle while the ipod sleeps and another app is active, music running) it just stops and gathers its marbles for a minute. I'm curious, what else got changed? Just the responses and some of the textures, it looks like?

With this update, our priority was addressing the performance issues in Challenges and on iPod touch. We also moved the whole download onto the App Store to prevent unnecessary waiting times once in the game. Do report any technical issues you run into (or do not run into, for that matter :)).
